We often hear about or even see examples of people who are extremely religious and pious. They are made out to be super muslims, with no faults whatsoever. We even hear stories about the Sahabah and the early generation muslims, and these stories seem like something out of a fairy tale.
Then as we are told these stories, we are encouraged or (feel discouraged) to take ourselves into account, and question ourselves as to why we aren’t at the level those people are. We are told to increase our good deeds, and to do ihsan (excellence) in everything we do, because,
إن الله يحب المحسنين
Indeed Allah loves the ones who excel in what they do. 2:195
إنَّ اللَّهَ كَتَبَ الْإِحْسَانَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ،ا”.
Allah prescribed Ihsan for everything…..
“Be a perfectionist in regards to your acts of worship, because the One you are worshipping is perfect.”
“Don’t wait till you are perfect . . . You will never be perfect”
أن تعبد الله كأنك تراه فإن لم تكن تراه فإنه يراك .
To serve Allah as if you see Him, and if you didn’t see Him, then for sure He sees you….. Bukhari
و ما النصر إلا من عند الله العزيز الحكيم
And there is no Help except with Allah, Al-Aziz (The Mighty), Al-Hakeem (The All-Wise). 3:126
