بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
We suffer with anxiety and stress issues. Underlying these anxieties is usually low self esteem.
I can tell you from personal experience that low self esteem is when you believe nobody cares about you. We went through traumatic experiences growing up, and we lack a sense of identity.
And this explains why we’re having an extremely difficult time trying establishing a good relationship with Allah. Allah, the greatest, nobody greater, his punishment is severe, his rewards are great, He will be judging all of us on the Day of Judgement, He is the King of Kings.
How do we approach an authority figure such as this? If you are similar to me, then you would be approaching Him with fear, and a huge chance of rejection. You would feel that there is no way that you can approach someone like this.
But I have been learning and struggling over a new concept. A concept that Allah actually cares about me. It’s a strange concept. It doesn’t feel natural or normal to actually believe you are and were always cared for. And I have fallen into severe deficits of iman and all out attacks from shaitan over simply understanding this issue.
So to answer the question. How do we know Allah cares about you specifically?
Answer: Allah is آلرحمن (Al-Rahman) He is characterized by an all encompassing Rahmah. We say this name all the time. But in reality, we haven’t understood the meaning of this name. Now we need to understand what exactly does Rahmah mean? The common translation is Merciful. But that definition never sat well with me, because when someone shows mercy, there is someone ready to punish, and only then he shows mercy. Like the game “mercy“, where one guy is causing so much pain to the other person, and then when the losing guy screams, “mercy mercy!” the winning guy decides to let go and stop inflicting pain.
In my encyclopedia of the Names of Allah, I give you the definition of what exactly does the concept of Rahmah mean.
رحمة : الرقة والرأفة والحنان والعطف
Rahmah is Gentleness, Tenderness, Sympathy, Compassion, Care.
Rahmah is one of the primary and most prominent attributes of Allah t’ala. Take a lot of time to think about these meanings of Rahmah. It is the fundamental attribute of Allah and it is before every surah in the Quran. We say this name when we great each other and when we finish the prayers. Now I defined what Rahmah is, the next ayah to understand:
ورحمتي وسعت كل شيء
And my Rahmah encompasses everything….. 7:156
Everything in existence, no matter who or what, is enveloped in Allah’s immense care, concern, and compassion.
And since you are something, this means you are somebody who Allah cares about immensely and tremendously. This is the application of the above ayah.
Now this conclusion I’m still working on myself, and I know all the doubts that may creep in that would reject this belief. All I know is that the more I have doubted and denied this conclusion, the stronger and more worse I have felt, the stronger shaitan has taken over my emotions and made me feel so much agony. And the more my iman has felt killed. But accepting this notion does wonders for your heart. Accepting this will start to enlighten your heart with love of Al-Rahman, because you finally after a lifetime of not feeling cared, for, you really do have someone who cares immensely and deeply for you.
May Al-Rahman help us all to realize that He truly cares deeply about us. May Al-Rahman fill our hearts with the light of Rahmah, and give us the contentment we so badly need to survive through life.
